Create a Keyboard Shortcut or Mouse Gesture to toggle Reader View on and off faster.

Enabling Reader View when reading an article online is a great way to remove distractions and adjust the text for comfortable reading. In Tip #91, we showed you how to enable Reader View from the Address Bar and where to adjust the settings. This tip is about toggling Reader View on and off as fast as possible with shortcuts.

To create a Keyboard Shortcut:

  1. Go to Settings > Keyboard > Page.
  2. Find “Toggle Reader View” and focus on the input field.
  3. Press the key combination you want to use.

To create a Mouse Gesture:

  1. Go to Settings > Mouse > Gesture Mapping.
  2. Click on + New Gesture.
  3. Start typing “Toggle Reader View” to find the command.
  4. Click “Next”.
  5. Hold down the left mouse button and draw the gesture you want to use in the box outlined in red.
  6. Click “Save Gesture”.

Then, whenever you want to switch to Reader View, just use the shortcut you created.

Enable Reader View for a distraction-free reading experience on Vivaldi on Android.

Web pages often come with a lot of content on them and focusing on the article you’re there to read can be a bit difficult with all the distractions. Enabling Reader View aka Simplified View on Android removes all but the main article, allowing you to focus on what’s important.

To enable Reader View on Android:

  1. First, go to Settings > Web Pages > Accessibility.
  2. Enable “Simplified view for web pages”.
  3. Then find a web page with an article you’d like to read. When Reader View can be enabled, a prompt will appear on top of the page.
  4. Tap on “View” to enable Reader View.

Tip #181

Enable Reader View before printing to remove the clutter and print only the important content.

Many websites, especially news sites, strip the printable page of irrelevant content. In case the web page you’re trying to print doesn’t do that, you can switch to Reader View, which will remove unnecessary sections and lets you print just the article. In addition, by using Reader View, you can adjust the font, font size, and line height before printing.

Here are the steps:

  1. Open the page you want to Print.
  2. Enable Reader View from the button on the right side of the Address Field.
  3. If needed, adjust the text from Reader View settings in the top right corner.
  4. Open the Print menu from Vivaldi menu > File > Print (Ctrl + P / ⌘ P).
  5. Review print settings.
  6. Click Print.

To enable Reader View:

  1. Open the article’s page you want read distraction free.
  2. On the right side of the Address Field, click on the Reader View button to enable and later disable Reader View.

To adjust settings, such as font size, line height or color scheme, click on the Settings button in the top right corner of the page or go to Settings > Webpages > Reader.
