Create a copy of a theme and edit that, instead of changing the original.

Themes in the Vivaldi Browser allow you to make the browser more personal. Though there are many default themes to choose from and a huge selection on themes.vivaldi.net, the one you like might be missing that final touch that makes it perfect for you. But instead of updating the original theme, create a copy of it and update the copy. That way you can go back to the original theme or use it again to create another theme.

To copy and edit a theme:

  1. Go to Settings > Themes.
  2. Select the theme you want to use as the base.
  3. Click on “New Theme”.
  4. Make changes to the copy.

Tip #266

Switch Workspaces with one click with the aid of Command Chains, Toolbar Editor and Custom Icons.

There are some unique ways you can use different Vivaldi features together to make the browser behave the way you want it. For example, with the help of Command Chains, Toolbar Editor and Custom Icons you can take Workspaces to the next level. Here’s how:

Step 1 – Create Command Chains for switching Workspaces.

  1. Go to Settings > Quick Commands > Command Chains.
  2. Create a new chain and give it a name.
  3. Replace the placeholder command with “Switch to Workspace #”. The number corresponds to the order in which you created your Workspaces.

Create a chain for every workspace. In each chain, you can also add other commands that will be executed at the same time. For example, add the command “Switch to theme” to make workspaces visually more different.

Step 2 – Add Command Chain buttons to a toolbar.

  1. Open the Toolbar Editor.
  2. Select the Command Chains section.
  3. Drag the buttons you made for Workspaces to a toolbar of your choice.

Step 3 – Add Custom Icons.

By default all Command Chain buttons looks the same, but you can add Custom Icons to make each button stand out.

  1. Go to Settings > Themes > Editor > Icons.
  2. In the list of icons, find the Command Chains you created.
  3. Select one and replace the default icon with one you’ve created.

For a more in depth description of this feature combination and final results, take a look at our blog post and video here.

Light up your surroundings in Vivaldi Theme colors with Philips Hue.

Do you use Philips Hue lights at home? Did you know that you can connect them to Vivaldi and have the lights change colors together with Vivaldi Themes?

To connect Philips Hue with Vivaldi:

  1. First, make sure your Hue lights are connected to the same network as the browser.
  2. Then, go to Settings > Themes > Philips Hue Theme Integration and tick the box for Enable Hue.
  3. Once enabled, click on Find bridge and click the button on your Bridge to confirm the connection.

The lights will be in the theme’s accent color. The color show will be more noticeable, if you have Accent Color from Active Page or Theme Scheduling with frequent switches enabled.

Don’t have Philips Hue lights, but do use Razer Chroma devices? Check Tip #183, to see how to link Razer Chroma and Vivaldi.

Tip #211

Use the filtering options on Vivaldi Themes to find the perfect Vivaldi browser theme for you.

Vivaldi Themes just got an update, which makes finding browser themes that match your preferences a lot easier. For example, you can look up the most popular anime and manga themes incorporating the color yellow, the newest minimalist themes in black or any other combination you can think of.

To find your perfect theme:

  1. Go to themes.vivaldi.net.
  2. On the homepage, click on “View all featured/popular/latest themes”.
  3. On the next page in the menu on the left side, select the criteria according to which you want to filter the themes.
  4. Browse through results and click on the theme for a closer look to preview and install the theme.

If you’ve made an amazing theme and want to share it with others, upload it to Vivaldi Themes by following the instructions in Tip #152.

Tip #183

Combine Vivaldi on Windows with Razer Chroma to make browsing more immersive and personal.

If Santa brought you new Razer Chroma gear for your computer, you can include Vivaldi in the color play. When Razer Chroma devices have been connected, your Theme‘s accent color will be reflected on the devices.

To enable Razer Chroma integration:

  1. Make sure your Chroma devices are connected to your computer.
  2. Go to Settings > Themes > Razer Chroma Theme Integration.
  3. Click Enable Razer Chroma Integration.
  4. Select the devices you want to sync with Vivaldi.

Make it more fun by enabling Accent from Page in your active theme’s settings or by setting up theme scheduling.

Tip #176

Check the status and availability of Vivaldi’s online services on vivaldistatus.com.

Whether we’re doing scheduled maintenance or servers are acting up despite all the love we give them, there’s always a chance that Vivaldi’s online services will be temporarily unavailable. With scheduled maintenance we notify our users ahead of time via email* and notifications on the website, so downtime wouldn’t come as a surprise. With unexpected outages our system administrators do their best to get things back up again as fast as possible.

If you’re having trouble accessing and using Vivaldi services, it’s good to check our status page on https://vivaldistatus.com, to confirm whether the services are operational or there’s something going on.

Tip #164

Decrease Accent Color Saturation in Theme settings for a more pastel look on the browser interface.

Vivaldi Theme settings allow you to display your chosen color or a color of the active page on the Tab Bar or Navigation Bar (depends on your Color Overrides settings). While your chosen color is most likely perfect, colors from active pages can sometimes be too bright. If the vivid colors become too distracting, you can fix that in Theme settings.

To adjust accent color saturation:

  1. Go to Settings > Themes.
  2. Go to the Editor tab and from the drop down menu select the theme you want to update.
  3. Adjust the value of Limit Accent Color Saturation to your liking.

The smaller the value the more subdued the color will be.

Two Vivaldi Browser windows, one in front of the other. The one in the background has 100% color saturation, the one on the foreground 60% saturation.

Tip #152

Share your custom browser theme with the community on themes.vivaldi.net.

Creativity has no limits and with the Themes editor in Vivaldi, you can let it run wild. Change the colors, add a custom background, tweak the settings and you have yourself a custom theme. Would be a shame to keep it to yourself. Themes.vivaldi.net is the place where Vivaldi users can share their creations with the community and already over 3000 themes have been published on the website.

Here’s how you can share your theme:

  1. Go to Settings > Themes > Library and select the theme you want to share.
  2. Click on Export Theme below the themes.
  3. Save the ZIP file to your computer.
  4. Go to Vivaldi Themes on https://themes.vivaldi.net.
  5. Log in to your Vivaldi account.
  6. Click Upload in the top right corner of the page.
  7. Fill in the details about the theme (in English) and upload the ZIP file.
  8. When you’re ready, click Create theme.

Vivaldi Team will review your theme and publish it. You’ll be notified once the theme has been published (also, when for some reason, the theme was rejected).
