Long press on the Tab Switcher button in Vivaldi on Android to open a new tab.

There are a few ways you can open a new tab in Vivaldi on Android. Perhaps a less discoverable yet very handy way to open a new tab is the following:

  1. Long press on the Tab Switcher button on the bottom toolbar.
  2. Select whether you want to open a new tab, a new private tab or create a new tab stack with the current tab. You can also close the active tab from there.

Tip #232

Add multiple contacts at once when composing messages in Vivaldi Webmail.

When you’re composing a new email in Vivaldi Webmail, you can start typing each recipient’s email and rely on auto-complete suggestions or you can view a list of your Contacts and select the recipients.

To add multiple contacts at once:

  1. In the message composer, click on Add Contact on the right side of the “To” field.
  2. Click on Select at the bottom of the contacts window to select multiple contacts.
  3. Tick the boxes in front of each contact you want to add as a recipient.
  4. When you’ve made your choice, click on Insert.

Tip #231

Change the default web camera used by websites in Vivaldi browser.

If you regularly join video calls via your browser, but have multiple web cameras attached to your computer (e.g. laptop’s built-in camera and an external camera), you can choose which one websites use by default.

To review and update camera settings:

  1. Paste chrome://settings/content/camera to the Address Field and press Enter. (Yes, it’s supposed to say chrome.)
  2. Click on the currently used camera’s name to see and select other available options.

Tip #230

Make use of the browser’s Sync feature to add custom Search Engines to Vivaldi on Android

It’s currently not possible to add a new search engine to Vivaldi on Android directly in the app. That doesn’t mean that Custom Search Engines can’t be added to Vivaldi on your mobile devices. Just follow the steps below.

To add custom search engines in Vivaldi on Android:

  1. Add the Search Engines in a desktop version of Vivaldi.
  2. Log in to your Vivaldi account on desktop in Settings > Sync.
  3. Sync either all data or at least the settings.
  4. Log in to your Vivaldi account in the Android app in Settings > Sync.
  5. Sync the same data types you synced on desktop.

Then you can check Settings > General > Search Engines to see your custom search engines listed among the others.

Tip #229

Hold down Shift or Ctrl / Cmd key to select multiple tabs.

Selecting multiple tabs at once to execute commands on them can help you cut off seconds if not minutes from your workflow, making you more efficient and productive. In addition to stacking and tiling tabs, you can reload, pin, duplicate, hibernate tabs and a lot more – all at once.

To select multiple tabs in a row:

  1. Select the first tab for your selection.
  2. Hold down the Shift key on your keyboard.
  3. Click on the last tab in the selection.

To select tabs one by one:

  1. Select the first tab for your selection.
  2. Hold down the Ctrl (Windows and Linux) or Cmd (macOS) key on your keyboard.
  3. Click on each of the other tabs you want to select.

You can use the same keys to deselect already selected tabs.

Tip #228

Enable developer mode to add extensions to Vivaldi from your computer.

Chrome Web Store is the easiest place to add Extensions to Vivaldi from. But there’s also another way to add an extension to the browser. Whether you’ve made your own extension or found one online (e.g. on Github), you can add the extension to Vivaldi following the steps below.

To manually install an extension:

  1. Go to Vivaldi menu > Tools > Extensions.
  2. From the top right corner enable Developer mode.
  3. From the new options that appear, click on Load unpacked.
  4. Find the extracted extension folder and click Select Folder.

⚠️ Only add extensions from trusted sources and by trusted authors.

Tip #227

Delete specific form autofill entries with a simple keyboard shortcut.

Have you ever made a typo in your email address during login or wrote your name wrong while filling out a form and now the faulty entry haunts you every time you go to the page? Luckily there’s an easy way to get rid of the ghost without deleting all other autofill entries.

To delete a specific form autofill entry:

  1. Go to the page where the entry you want to delete is shown.
  2. Click on the input field to reveal the autofill suggestions.
  3. With a mouse or down arrow key focus on the autofill entry.
  4. Press Shift + Delete (Windows and Linux) or Shift + Fn + Delete (macOS) on your keyboard to delete it.

Tip #226

Reset toolbar customizations to start from fresh.

The level to which you can customize the toolbars on Vivaldi’s desktop version is unrivaled. But sometimes we can get carried away with our creativity, so it might help to take a step back and start again with the default configuration.

To reset the toolbars:

  1. Right-click on the toolbar you want to reset.
  2. From the menu, select Edit > Reset Toolbar to Default.

Tip #225

Subscribe to posts from users you follow on Vivaldi Social only in the languages you understand.

In Tip #155 we showed you how to filter posts in various public timelines based on the languages you speak. This time we’ll tell you how to fine tune in which languages you see posts from users you follow.

To change language subscription per user:

  1. Go to the user’s profile.
  2. Click on the Menu button near the Unfollow button.
  3. Select Change Subscribed Languages.
  4. Tick the boxes for languages you want to see posts in.

If you select none, you’ll see posts in all languages they post in.

Tip #224

Reload pages in Vivaldi on Android with a long swipe.

There are a couple of ways you can reload a web page in Vivaldi on Android. If you’re already near the top of the page swiping is probably the easiest.

To reload a web page with a swipe gesture:

  1. Scroll to the top of the page.
  2. Swipe down on your screen as if you’d want to scroll even further up.
  3. When you see a reload icon appear, release your finger to reload the page.

If you’ve been scrolling on a long page for a while, then using swipe to reload is probably not so convenient. In that case, open the Vivaldi menu and tap on the reload button there.

Tip #223

Use Vivaldi Feeds to listen and keep track of your favorite podcasts.

Not only can you curate your own news feed and follow your favorite YouTube channels with Vivaldi Feeds, you can also turn it into a podcast player.

To listen to podcasts in Vivaldi:

  1. Subscribe to the podcast with Vivaldi Feeds by going to the podcast’s website and clicking on the Page offers Feeds button on the right side of the Address Field.
  2. Using the Feeds Panel, find an episode you want to listen to.
  3. Double-click on the episode title in the list of feed items to open it in a new tab. That way you can keep browsing other feed posts and use Vivaldi Mail while listening to the podcast.
  4. Press Play on the audio player in the Linked Audio section of the feed message.

Tip #221

Keep listening to audio after switching tabs or apps by enabling background audio in Vivaldi on Android.

Want to put on some music while browsing or don’t want to pause a video to respond to a message in a different app? Normally audio and video playback will stop when you switch tabs or apps, but there’s a setting in Vivaldi on Android that, when enabled, will keep the audio in the tab playing, even when it’s no longer the active tab.

To enable media playback in the background:

  1. Go to Settings > General.
  2. Enable Allow background audio playback.

Tip #220

Select what to display in the Address Field drop-down menu.

Whenever you type a search keyword or a URL in the Address Field, you’ll get suggestions based on what you type. What is displayed there is up for you to decide.

Go to Settings > Address Bar > Address Filed Drop-Down Menu to review and update your setup.

You can include the following in the drop-down menu:

  • Bookmarks
  • Typed History
  • Frequently Visited Pages
  • Browser History
  • Search Queries in Typed History

To include Search Suggestions, go to Settings > Search > Allow Search Suggestions.

If you don’t want to see anything while you type, you can disable the drop-down menu altogether.
