Eliminate language barriers on Vivaldi Social with one click.
Vivaldi Social brings together speakers of many languages. While it’s fascinating to know what people are up to in various parts of the world, it can be challenging if you don’t speak their language.
To translate content:
Find a post on Vivaldi Social you want to translate.
Click on the Translate button below the post.
Click on Show original, to revert to the original text.
The option to translate a post is shown below all posts that are in a different language from your user interface, granted that the post’s author has set the correct language for their post.
On help.vivaldi.com we have a large selection of articles teaching you about the countless features of the Vivaldi browser and services. With the help of our amazing volunteer translators, in addition to English, we’re able to offer Help pages in a few different languages.
When viewing an article, look below the title and table of contents to see in which languages the article is available in. Click on the language to switch to the translated version.
Where we have translated more than half of the articles, you can also select the language from the menu in the top right corner of the page and view the whole site in it.
In case we haven’t translated Vivaldi Help into a language you’d like to read the articles in, you can use the browser’s built-in translation tool or a translation Extension of your choice.

Tap on Advanced in the Translation settings section and then on Automatically translate these languages.
To add a new language, tap on Add language.
Find the language on the list and tap on it.
To set the translation language:
In advanced translation settings, tap on Translate into this language.
Find the language on the list and tap on it.
Then, whenever you visit a page in the chosen language, it will automatically be translated. At the bottom of the screen you’ll get a menu to switch between the original language and translation and update the translation settings for the current website and language.
Vivaldi Community on Vivaldi Social is an international group of people, who post in many different languages. This means that the public timelines (e.g. Local and Federated) can include posts that you don’t understand. You could use Vivaldi Translate to select and translate the texts, but you can also filter them out altogether.
To filter posts by language:
On Vivaldi Social, go to Preferences > Other > Public Timelines.
In the Filter languages section, check the boxes for all languages you want to see posts in.
Scroll either to the top or bottom of the page and click Save changes.
Then, as long as the post author has set a correct language for their post, the public timelines will only include posts in the languages you’ve chosen. So, when you yourself post on Vivaldi Social, make sure you also select the correct language for your posts. The default post language can be changed in Preferences > Other > Posting Defaults > Posting Language.
